“The art of teaching is the art of assisting discovery.”

Jaclyn Michelle Surso is an Adjunct Professor of Voice at High Point University where she teaches private voice lessons. She maintains an active singing career outside of teaching.

Jaclyn completed a Professional Artist Certificate fellowship with the A.J. Fletcher Opera Institute, associated with The University of North Carolina School of the Arts in Winston Salem, and in recent years has been growing her private teaching studio in Greensboro. She received her Bachelor and Master of Music degrees in vocal performance at The Cleveland Institute of Music while studying with Mary Schiller.

While being at the A.J. Fletcher Opera Institute she performed the role of Magda in Menotti’s The Consul as well as Rosalinda in J. Strauss’s Die Fledermaus. She also sang the role of Sandrina in Mozart’s La finta giardiniera. During this performance, “Jaclyn Surso lacked nothing in vocal power and agility, conveying Violante/Sandrina’s emotional turmoil,” (William Thomas Walker of CVNC). She gave a very successful performance of Antonia in Offenbach’s Les contes d’Hoffmann. Jaclyn has continued to study with Marilyn Taylor following their collaboration at the A.J. Fletcher Opera Institute.

Favorite roles that she has performed both around the country and abroad are Miss Jessel in Turn of the Screw, First and Second Lady in Die Zauberflöte, Fiordiligi in Così fan tutte, as well as Donna Elvira in Don Giovanni, Alice in Falstaff,  Maddalena in Andrea Chénier, Desdemona in Otello, and Die Marschallin in Der Rosenkavalier. Jaclyn performed a recital tour in Spain to help promote the postgraduate degree music programs at UNCSA after which she spent the summer in Italy working with Renata Scotto, during which she made her debut in Italy performing the Countess in Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro.

Jaclyn has appreciated the opportunities to collaborate with world renowned clinicians such as Martin Katz, Tony Griffey, and Warren Jones.

Miss Surso has embraced her Slavic background by pursuing further study and performance of the Russian language in college and the Russian Opera Workshop. Here she studied and performed works by various Russian and Czech composers such as the title role in Tchaikovsky’s Iolanta.

She continues to be the musical director and conductor of performances in the area put on by other studios, companies, community theaters, and Davis Surso Music. Jaclyn is a founder and co-owner of a thriving private music studio, Davis Surso Music, and continues to enjoy spreading the love and education of music with her students, friends, and community.

"Have fun and find joy in making music"

Ken Davis began playing piano when he was five years old and enjoys studying and performing many different styles of music including classical, jazz, musical theatre, rock, and improvisation. He first earned a degree in Biochemistry from Furman University, where he was also a member of the university jazz bands. Ken earned a second bachelor’s degree in music at Augusta University, and continued his musical education at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro where he earned a Master and Doctor of Music in Piano Performance, as well as a Post-Master's Certificate in Music Theory Pedagogy. Ken has performed all over the U.S. in piano recitals and competitions and enjoys joining in various ensemble performances as well.

Ken has been teaching piano for over ten years and enjoys working with students to develop their unique creativity and artistic expression, as well as learning to play music in the styles they find fun and enjoyable. An important part of his approach to teaching is to explore with students the many facets of engaging with music - theory, technique, performance, recording, and composing. In addition to playing music Ken enjoys hiking, biking, and traveling.
